This is the ultimate author-friendly reading and signing, treating our guest writer to a fun and enthusiastic audience of 300 season subscribers, an honorarium, a portrait session, dinner at Lucy's Café, lodging at the King George Inn if necessary, and a souvenir basket of Niagara.
In past seasons we were fortunate in hosting some of Canada's finest writers including: Pierre Berton, Anna Porter, Mordecai Richler, Barbara Gowdy, Jan Wong, Farley Mowat, Margaret Atwood, Alistair MacLeod, David Suzuki, Stevie Cameron, humourists Allan Fotheringham and Stuart McLean, as well as lively personalities like Mike Bullard, Sandra Shamas, Peter Mansbridge and Lloyd Robertson (Yes, Lloyd is lively as a matter of fact.)

READINGS AT THE ROSELAWN 2009/2010
SCHEDULE OF AUTHORS |
|
|
| THURSDAY JANUARY 28 |
The second half of this season's Readings at The Roselawn kicks off with
Dr. Vincent Lam and his amazing book - Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures.
In his debut short story collection, Lam links twelve riveting, eye-opening accounts of what it really means to be a doctor.
Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures won the very presitgious Scotiabank Giller Prize.
These amazing tales from the emergency ward have been turned into an eight-part mini series which begins January 10 on HBO Canada and The Movie Network. |
THURSDAY FEBRUARY 25 |
No stranger to literary prizes, skilled novelist M.G. Vassanji won this year's Governor General's Award for non-fiction wth A Place Within: Rediscovering India.
Having won the Giller Prize twice, Vassanji, born in Africa and living in Toronto, has won nothing but rave reviews for this memoir about India, his ancestral homeland.
With the recent terrorist attack on Mumbai and the dangerous relationship between India and Pakistan, this should be a lively night out indeed. |
THURSDAY MARCH 25 |
Out of nowhere came the debut novel The Golden Mean by British Columbia's Annabel Lyon. Only two other authors have ever had their books nominated for all three of Canada's big literary prizes - The Giller, The Writer's Trust and the Governor General's Award. This compelling and fictional account of the relationship between Aristotle and his star pupil, Alexander The Great won the $25,000 Rogers Writer's Trust Fiction Award. |
