In hindsight, this book may have been a mistake. The tipoff was when the initial print run was exhausted by 5,000 curlers who purchased copies for the sole purpose of burning them.
As well as a fairly controversial title, describing the great Canadian sport of curling as "hand-to-hand shuffleboard played in a meat locker" may have gone too far.
"I blame the publisher for all the fuss this book created - they picked the title. I had a perfectly kind and gentle title: 'Curling - The Game For The '90s.' (But you gotta be that old to enjoy it, eh? It's not the fastest game on ice.)"
Seriously, this is a very funny book of hilarious short stories with only 30 of the 171 pages dealing with the game of curling. There's a travel section entitled Four Countries And A City I Can Never Go Back To and ten stories celebrating male behaviour entitled Guys - Setting Off The Jerk Detector. |
